- 50% of Basic Salary (as it is a metro city)
= ₹50,000 × 50% = ₹25,000
- Rent Paid – 10% of Basic Salary =
₹15,000 – ₹5,000 = ₹10,000
- Actual HRA received = ₹20,000
The exempted HRA will be the lowest of these values: Minimum of
(₹20,000, ₹25,000, ₹10,000) = ₹10,000
So, ₹10,000 of the HRA is exempt from tax, while the remaining ₹10,000 is
taxable.
